The story of how it all began ;
Back in 1992 Simon Carr,the companies managing director,was involved in building a succesfull bird feed business,concentrating on racing pigeon corns and specialist blends for cage and aviary birds. Having realised that birds and animals could be conditioned with the use of different essential and non essential oils,information that he came across in a hand written book that he found behind a sealed wall in his farmhouse, the book was written in and around 1865 and is a log of remedies and blends of naturally occuring plant extracts from all around the world,these oils and spices were coming into the country via the spice routes and were readily available,even more so than today,they were the only means of cure for many ills and problems.
The image above shows the hand written book hidden for over 125 years .
Simon Carr brought onto the market Ad Herb original,an oreganum plant extract,after trialling it himself,blending it into his home produced pigeon corn
he paired up 4 pairs of pigeons that his customers gave him to trial the Ad Herb on.Having never kept or raced pigeons before he guessed at which cock should go to which hen,the birds were put onto the Ad Herb straight away.and reared their youngsters with no problems,He joined a local club, borrowed a clock,and prepared for his first race ,training his youngsters with the help of his regular customers.
His first race with the youngsters was Marlboough approx 165 miles,the first bird came and flew around twice before settelling on the roof, it took 2 mins to get it in, and another 30 seconds to clock it in.
Simon picked up 13th fed in the derbyshire fed 5650 birdage .His freinds at the club believed that if the bird
had trapped straight away and was timed in quickly he would have topped the fed on his first race.
News quickly travelled about the result and the stuff he was putting in the corn,that soon many fanciers in the area were using ad herb, word quickly spread to Barnsley area and then to the north east and the rest is history.
Ad herb is now used in its two formulas, Original for the corn and pellets and aqueuose for the water ,
"We have now added to our list of products and have expanded into cage and aviary and rabbits "
"We are proud of the fact that we were the first British company to marketing oreganum in the form of Ad Herb and that our customer base has grown to an estimated 18000 daily users in the pigeon world".
In 2003 the sales improved to a point that Simon sold off his feed corn business and now concentrates wholley on his herbal oils Carr's are still the only totally
